Kathryn Shagas

Kathryn Shagas is originally from Montreal, and she studied music for 16 years before receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in design from Philadelphia College of Art, now University of the Arts. After 30 years in Baltimore County she recently moved to Belfast, Maine.

As a former musician she was inspired by the lyrical energy and rhythm of nature during her walks in Baltimore County—horses thundering in fields, light glittering on water, starlings turning and twisting in flight.

Kathryn paints in plein air and from imagination with acrylic, oil stick, charcoal and watercolor, crisscrossing the border between realism and abstraction to express the feeling of a particular moment.

Her work is exhibited in solo and group shows in the U.S., included in private collections, and was featured in The Palette magazine and Baltimore Magazine.
